UNIONDALE, N. Air Max Cz .Y. -- Cory Schneider has to make the most of his opportunities to guard the New Jersey Devils net to earn more playing time. It doesnt come easily in a goalie split with Martin Brodeur, but he made a good case for himself in a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night. Schneider made 30 saves and held off the Islanders late charge to win for the first time since a shutout of Buffalo on Nov. 30. "I want to win, but you cant do it without the guys in front of you," Schneider said. "I thought we played really well tonight, and we eliminated a lot of their odd-man rush opportunities." The 27-year-old goalie held the Islanders scoreless until midway through the third period, before Frans Nielsen tied it 1-1. It didnt stay even for long. With 6:57 to play, Travis Zajac took a shot off his upper body from Marek Zidlicky. The puck deflected past goalie Evgeni Nabokov for the winning goal. In addition to limiting the Islanders odd-man rushes, the Devils capitalized on their own chances. New Jersey took a 1-0 lead with 8:23 remaining in the first period when Adam Henrique beat Nabokov as the trailer on an odd-man rush. "We needed this as a group," Schneider said of the win. "Weve been stringing some points together, which is nice. But we couldnt settle for one. I think we needed the two." New Jersey lost to Columbus at home in a shootout on Friday night. The Islanders absorbed their latest tough home loss. New York hasnt won at Nassau Coliseum in regulation since Nov. 12 -- going 1-5-4 during that span. This loss came without captain John Tavares, who missed the game because of an undisclosed lower-body injury and had his consecutive games streak snapped at 246. He is day to day. Despite Tavaress absence, the Islanders controlled the puck and put heavy pressure on the Devils, particularly in the third period. But Schneider turned aside all but one of their 14 shots. They received a late power play, but couldnt convert -- leaving them 0 for 3 with the advantage during the game. "It was a typical Islanders-Devils game," New York coach Jack Capuano said. "They got the shot and the bounce at the end." The bounce resulted in one of two goals allowed by Nabokov, who played another solid game. Fresh off a shutout victory over Detroit on Monday, the veteran goalie made 23 saves. "Its a process," Capuano said. "(Weve) got to do a better job teaching these kids, and theyre going to go through some growing pains." NOTES: Devils captain Bryce Salvador returned for the first time since he broke a foot on Oct. 22. The 37 year old defenceman logged a team-high 16:05 of ice time in the first two periods. ... New Jersey LW Mattias Tedenby was a healthy scratch. He is minus-5 in three games since he came back from a two-game conditioning stint in the AHL. ... Tavares consecutive games streak is the fifth longest in Islanders history. ... Islanders 20-year-old centre Ryan Strome was held pointless. He has no goals and just one assist six games into his NHL career. Air Max Levně Outlet . 3 Ohio State. The world No. 1 superstar Williams rolled past 19-year-old Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-2 in 67 minutes at the All England Club. The American great smacked nine aces and was not broken in the predictable matchup. "Shes incredibly promising, she does everything well," Williams said of Garcia. "Her serve is amazing, so I knew it would be a good match on the grass." Williams was among those restoring order at the years third Grand Slam event just one day after five former world No. 1 women exited the draw via upset or injury, including former champion Maria Sharapova and reigning two-time Australian Open titlist Victoria Azarenka. The 31-year-old Williams is now riding a career-best 33-match winning streak and is a brilliant 76-3 since losing in the first round at last years French Open. Williams is also the reigning French and U.S. Open champion and owns 16 Grand Slam singles titles overall. She beat Radwanska in last years final here to capture her third Wimbledon title in four years and also captured an Olympic gold medal at the All England Club last summer. Her third-round opponent will be 42-year-old Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm, who is the oldest woman to reach the third round at Wimbledon in the Open Era. "I dont know how shes able to do so well," Williams said. Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Radwanska improved to 8-1 at Wimbledon over the last two years by blasting Frances Mathilde Johansson 6-1, 6-3. The Poles third-round opponent will be promising American Madison Keys. Former Grand Slam champs Li Na and Samantha Stosur also reached the round of 32. The sixth-seeded Li posted a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 victory over previously hot Romanian Simona Halep. The bottom half of the draw was turned upside down on Wednesday, when the second-seeded Azarenka, third-seeded Sharapova and ninth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki all exited. Petra Kvitova, the 2011 Wimbledon champ, was the only top-10 seed in the bottom half to survive the carnage and did so thanks to a walkover win against Yaroslava Shvedova. Halep could have posed a problem for Li, as she entered the All England Club after capturing titles each of the past two weeks -- first in Nuremberg and then in Den Bosch. After dominnating the second set by winning 28 of the 40 points played, Halep was no match in the third as the 2011 French Open champ turned the tables and won 28-of-42 points. Air Max Levně. . Li had lost in the second round at Wimbledon each of the last two years after a quarterfinal appearance in 2010, and was coming off a second-round loss at this months French Open after a runner-up finish at the Australian Open. Up next for Li will be Czech slugger Klara Zakopalova. Stosur, the 2011 U.S. Open champ, had little trouble for the second match in a row this week. The 14th-seeded Australian cruised past Russian Olga Puchkova, 6-2, 6-2, after a 6-1, 6-3 rout of Slovak Anna Schmiedlova in the first round. The competition will get a little tougher for Stosur in the third round, as Sabine Lisicki now awaits. The 23rd-seeded German, a Wimbledon semifinalist in 2011 and twice a quarterfinalist in the London suburb, thumped Russian veteran Elena Vesnina, 6-3, 6-1. Eleventh-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci snuck into the third round with a 6-1, 4-6, 9-7 decision against Slovak Jana Cepelova, while other winners Thursday included 18th-seeded Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova, a 32nd-seeded Zakopalova, Keys, Date-Krumm, Croat Petra Martic, New Zealands Marina Erakovic, and Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova. Cibulkova needed just 49 minutes to dispatch Spains Maria Teresa Torro-Flor, 6-0, 6-1; Zakopalova topped German Annika Beck 7-6 (7-5), 6-3; Erakovic upended 24th-seeded Chinese Peng Shuai 7-6 (8-6), 6-2; Keys knocked out 30th- seeded German Mona Barthel 6-4, 6-2; Date-Krumm advanced with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Romanias Alexandra Cadantu; Martic claimed a 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 win over Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic; and Pironkova downed Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-5, 6-3. Pironkova was a semifinalist here in 2010 and quarterfinalist in 2011. Three second-round matches, including one for seventh-seeded German Angelique Kerber, were postponed because of rain on Thursday -- surprisingly the first rain stoppage of the fortnight. The third round will commence Friday, including matches for an eighth-seeded Kvitova, 15th-seeded former Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli and 17th-seeded American Sloane Stephens, who will take on Czech Petra Cetkovska. Also on the Day-5 schedule will be rising Canadian Eugenie Bouchard and giant- killer Michelle Larcher de Brito, who shocked the former Wimbledon champ Sharapova on Wednesday.
